Summertime entertaining à la française is easier than you think!
We're willing to bet that you think entertaining the way the French do requires
long planning and complicated menus. Think again! True, the French have earned
a well-deserved reputation as a nation of culinary experts and experimenters.
Yet, even the strongest advocates of haute cuisine have shown that an easygoing
style is today's best way to entertain with French panache. It's certainly
the case at several famed French chefs' new, trendy New York City restaurants,
including Daniel Boulud's DB Bistro Moderne and Jean-George's Perry
Street.
In fact, entertaining à la française is not only feasible, but
might also be your easiest, most enjoyable party ever! Why? The French savor
simple, fresh, seasonal foods with very little fuss at their parties. So, instead
of cooking dozens of different hors' d' oeuvres, get out of the kitchen and set
out a simple, summery French cheese plate with Brie cheese, Goat Cheese and Camembert.
Add fresh baguettes, melon and berries, and your favorite wine pairing. The French
revel in casual, impromptu gatherings; go ahead and invite a few good friends
for wine & cheese or dessert tonight. After all, the French originated carpe
diem - they savor every moment! So, above all, enjoy the time spent with good
food and good friends this summer!
